Most books on celestial navigation fall into one of two categories: Some cover the theory of astronavigation in detail but leave practical matters to only two or three chapters; others stress the how-to, while providing a very sketchy introduction to theory. The few manuals that stress theory and practice with equality (like Dutton's and Bowditch) are encyclopedic in bulk.
