The U.S. Coast Guard requires that a Physical Examination Certificate and Drug Test Report be completed to ensure that all holders of Captain’s Licenses and Merchant Mariner’s documents are physically fit and free of debilitating injury or illegal drugs.
The Physical Examination must be done on a Coast Guard form, which is supplied by The Nautical School, and taken within 12 months of applying. Eyesight must be 20/200 correctable to 20/40. Waivers are available.
The Drug Test must be taken within six months of applying.
You may submit one of the following as proof:
The Chemical Testing form, provided by The Nautical School and completed by your doctor, certifying you passed a chemical test from an approved SAMHSA lab within the last six months, conducted in accordance with 49 CFR Part 40. Your doctor must be able to conduct DOT testing, using Federal Control and Custody Forms.
If you are in a Random Drug Program that is recognized by the ISCG, you may submit a letter from the program stating:
- That you have been subject to their drug test program during the previous 12 months in accordance with CFR 46 Part 40.
- That you have never failed a drug test.
- That you have never refused to test.
The Nautical School can conduct your USCG-Required Physical Examinations and Drug Testing on-site! No need to go anywhere. |
